This large-scale exhibition is one of the most extensive Czech sculpture exhibitions in Istanbul to date. “Gates of the Underground” examines our deep connection to the past by immersing us in the landscapes imagined by Vlastimil Berรกnek and Jaroslav Proลกek. Berรกnek creates his unique sculptures in his studio in the Czech Republic. His expression of solid foundations encourages everyone to pause, or at least slow down, and appreciate the best feelings within each of us. Berรกnek is truly a Renaissance personality, excelling as a painter, architect, writer, graphic artist, poet, and designer, with his primary domain remaining sculpture. His simple forms, executed in materials such as glass, represent the perfectionist tendencies that Berรกnek contrasts with ancient 6,500-year-old wood in his later work, showcasing the ultimate expression of his post-minimalist approach to this medium. Berรกnek seeks a unique balance between abstract form, inspired by innermost values, and the irrefutable completeness of his sculptures.

The “Byzantine Mona Lisa” Discovered in Istanbul

In a church on the Princes’ Islands of Istanbul, a masterpiece and Byzantine treasure awaited discovery. This unique bilateral post-Byzantine icon of Panagia Eleousa held a peculiar feature: on its reverse side, there was another painted icon from the 14th century, which had remained “hidden” for over a hundred years inside a heavy metal box, kept in the Church of Panagia Eleousa on Bรผyรผkada/Pringipos. This magnificent, rare, and unique artifact, often regarded as the Byzantine Mona Lisa, has endured through the centuries, conveying numerous historical, social, and artistic messages. With the expertise of a conservator, who tends to it as an art doctor, it has been safeguarded for future generations. Currently, this masterpiece is housed at the Church of Panagia Eleousa in Bรผyรผkada/Pringipos, Istanbul.

The first of our ‘Silent Screams’ painting exhibitions, with which we set out with nearly 40 painters and our slogan ‘There is No Excuse for Violence’ was held on November 1, 2022. During this event Prof. Dr. Mansur Beyazyรผrek’s held a conference on violence and art. Our aim is to stand in against psychological and physical violence against women, men, animals, young people, old people, doctors, health workers, teachers, lawyers, judges, police, and all living beings.

Our second exhibition will be opening on 11.11.2022 in BOF HOTELS BUSINESS, Istanbul, Umraniye, Turkey. It will be held until 19.11.2022. A percentage of the revenues from our exhibition will be donated by the artists to the victims of violence and those in need.
