“I foresee a mature NFT developing from the ashes of the grifters. Original art is original art and there will always be a market for it. The world will only get more digital. Whether it’s gaming platforms or the metaverse, cave paintings or an NFT gallery, there are still walls that need decoration. The savvy artists will figure out how to keep a toe in each pool to create physical and digital work, each raising the others’ profile.”

MEDEA Contemporary Art Exhibition curated by Demetrio Paparoni

The exhibition includes works by 17 artists created specifically on the theme of Medea, one of the most famous and controversial characters in Greek mythology. It reveals the extent to which the story of the sorceress, infanticide in Euripides’ narration, still affects the imagination of our times. Through the unprecedented gaze of contemporary artists from different geographical areas – from Northern Europe to China, from the Caucasus region to South-East Asia, as well as Italy – the exhibition highlights the inseparable link between Siracusa and ancient theatre. Classical tragedy is thus revived in Siracusa through contemporary artistic expressions also in the field of visual arts.

“This business is not for the fragile. It has its up and downs, with incredible highs that border on euphoria to deep depressive downs. Financial preparation is always the biggest challenge. You can never have a big enough war chest, so you need to be smart with the capital you deploy. And capital is not just financial, but emotional and professional capital that you need to be smart with. Balancing healthy egos of artists and collectors with the necessary evil of finance is a high wire act in the circus.”

Having grown tired of just typing on a keyboard, freaky-Deek decided to dive into his creative passion and start his own business. As a former figurine collector, he wanted to create something truly unique and dynamic. So, he combined his electronics skills with his love for art and crafted sculptures with added features such as lights and sound. Ben Martin (1930-2017) covered wars, fashion, politics, arts, business and sports for Time, Life, Fortune, People and Sports Illustrated for thirty-three years. He covered Martin Luther King during the Selma to Montgomery Civil Rights March, took the infamous sweaty five-o’clock shadow photograph of Richard Nixon during the Kennedy-Nixon TV debates in 1960 that Nixon claimed cost him the election, and photographed Time’s now famous “Swinging London” cover story. He photographed major cover essays on the 25th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy and 40th anniversaries of Pearl Harbor and Hiroshima, the Mozambique civil war from both the rebel and Portuguese sides and an arctic expedition to the North Pole. His photograph of President John F. Kennedy’s funeral led to a Life magazine cover, and his coverage of Pope Paul’s trip to the Holy Land was a cover feature in Time.

What’s Wrong With “Buying Local” When It Comes to Art?

It seems that the modern art world wants the artist to be restricted to the haul and carry, booth setup, travel, out of town hotel expenses, adverse weather, damage to artwork, and watch the crowds meander by art show circuit rather than using local art for interior decorating or serious art show displays in art centers or galleries. Communities like art shows that draw crowds and money into their area, and seem determined to keep the art show circuit working to their own advantage.
