Inspired by whimsy and purity of the feminine form, Cindy Shaoul is known for her impressionistic and abstract style. She is best recognized for her series ‘Brides’, ‘Dripping Dots’ and ‘Hearts’, as well as her ‘Plein-Air’ street scenes of quintessential New York locations.
Shaoul’s works can be found in hundreds of permanent private and corporate collections worldwide.
This is Part 2 of Cindy’s exclusive interview to The World Art News.
As always, Vivienne, aided and abetted by Ida Faerber, has scoured the globe for independent, under-the-radar designers, each with a strong concept, a well-defined design direction, individualistic point of view and sophistication of craftsmanship and use of materials. She explains too that as a historian she particularly appreciates designs that acknowledge and respect the long and rich history of the jewel, its rituals and traditions, while at the same time challenging perceptions of the role and meaning of the jewel. The styles represented in the 2022 Designer Vivarium, as always, are all very different from each other, showing the breadth, depth and versatility of expression in today’s world of contemporary jewellery.
MARKET ALERT | Vintage rotary phones have been steadily rising in value and liquidity, becoming almost as good as gold.
Rare models sell between $200-2000 regularly. Even most basic rotary phones are in high demand.
Well-known home decorators are getting in the game and scooping up vintage phones from the market in bulk!
Further fuel into the fire is thrown by the limited (and constantly decreasing) supply.
This small bell shaped tea cup, manufactured in 1830s by the famous Batenin Porcelain Factory that belonged to a wealthy merchant Philip Batenin, is a perfect example of valuable antique porcelain from the Imperial Russia. The cup features one of the rarest views ever depicted on Batenin’s creations, the Smolny Cathedral on the Neva River, which is painted completely by hand.
A similar cylindrical cup with a view of the Smolny Cathedral was sold at a Sotheby’s auction in June 2007 for £2400. Another is located in the world-famous Hermitage Museum. Nowadays, Batenin’s porcelain is quite rare and highly prized among collectors.
Leonid is one of the most skilled and imaginative precisionism artists in Europe. He is also a hopeless romantic who uses his talent to paint spectacular fantasy scenes, often with oil on large canvases. Leonid’s artworks take time and anyone who had the pleasure to see them up-close was undoubtedly amazed by his attention to detail.
While Leonid’s favorite genre is seascapes, there are no limits to his imagination. If in real life he is a very modest man, in his art Leonid ventures into far corners of distant galaxies, sails over oceans and seas, and goes into wild winter forest of the north, not to mention the female beauty that occasionally comes to life on his canvas. A true romantic, Leonid paints romance like no one else.
The 4th edition of GemGenève will take place from 5th to 8th May 2022 at Palexpo. GemGenève organizers, Thomas Faerber and Ronny Totah, have announced there will be 160 exhibitors from all four corners of the earth.

From Thursday 5th May to Sunday 8th May, GemGenève opens the doors to its fourth edition at Palexpo. The meeting of gemology and jewellery professionals and enthusiasts remains faithful to its exclusive recipe: created by exhibitors for exhibitors and open to the general public, this show offers a unique platform for expression dedicated to the world of colored stones, exceptional diamonds, pearls, antique and contemporary jewellery, prestigious designers and emerging talents. SAI is pleased to present ‘WORKS SPEAK ELOQUENTLY THAN LIPS!!!’ an exhibition by NUTS ART WORKS, a craftsman known for producing store signs and graphics for fashion brands such as SUPREME, taking place from Friday 11th February to Sunday 27th February 2022.
Naoto Hinai, the artisan behind NUTS ARTWORKS, has been fascinated with vintage American culture since childhood and has worked as a self-taught hand-painted sign maker since 1996. With every step of the production process created by hand, Hinai’ s level of craftsmanship has earned him the trust of Tokyo’ s Harajuku cultural scene, as well as brands and stores in various industries. Throughout his career, he has created shop signs and graphics for leading brands, including SUPREME, NEIGHBORHOOD, Ralph Lauren, and UNIQLO.
To start off the new year, RtistiQ will present the Digital NFT versions of Raja Ravi Varma’s (RRV) works ‘The Coquette’ and ‘Reclining Nair Lady’, two of his most famous paintings. With the originals considered to be National Treasures and unable to be brought out of India, the NFT versions will be auctioned online on the RtistiQ platform from 17 February to 20 February 2022.
This collection will be single editions of works of the Indian Art Legend to be tokenized and minted and this also marks the first NFT sales in collaboration with a traditional gallery and an artist foundation.
