Stunning Stingray Throne by Didier Guenard – An Oak Barrel Story

Didier Guenard is a known artist, furniture maker, and restorer from France that specialized in wooden art and décor. His signature creations are works of fine furniture made from vintage and antique oak barrels. Didier uniquely repurposed, perfected, and mastered the wood of these vessels, teaching the world – the art of revealing a straight line within a curve.

For centuries oak barrels have been used to store and transport wine and spirits, but they also have a second life as a material for making artistic furniture. The sturdy and durable oak wood can be transformed into unique and beautiful pieces that add a rustic and vintage charm to any space. Breaking Down Elements Behind Sascha Fonseca’s Award-Winning Wildlife Photo “World of the Snow Leopard”

Snow leopard standing on a snowy slope before mountain peaks beneath a pink-and-blue sunset sky.

The indigenous peoples of the Indian Himalayas call them “the ghost of the mountain.” The moniker fits; with its thick, whitish-grey fur that blends perfectly with its icy local habitat, the snow leopard seems made for camouflage. This is not, however, enough to protect it from poaching or the ruinous effects of climate change. Not only are snow leopards difficult to find—there are now fewer of them to see. This is why the snow leopard is the subject of the photograph that won Sascha Fonseca the Wildlife Photographer of the Year People’s Choice Award. The London Natural History Museum hosts this photography competition to highlight the connection between photography, science, and art.

VESTIGES OF THE FUTURE: Photography of Jean-Marc Yersin

Black-and-white photograph of La Tour Rouge at Julier Pass, with tall arched openings and snowy mountains.

Former co-director of the Swiss Camera Museum, Jean-Marc Yersin started out as a professional photographer.

Since 2018, he has returned to his first passion, continuing a cycle of images that inspired him thirty years earlier. He frames tightly, in black and white, motorway structures, factories and mountain buildings.

The compositions are geometric, contrasted, sharp. There is no human presence. The forms are abstracted from their functions. The silence is absolute.

These are photographs under tension. They show the conflict between the built environment and nature, between concrete and the landscapes.
