In honor of The Hyde Collection’s sixtieth anniversary in 2023 of its opening as a fine arts museum, we are pleased to announce the exhibition Songs of the Horizon: David Smith, Music, and Dance.

Curated by Dr. Jennifer Field, Executive Director of the Estate of David Smith, this project will be the first museum exhibition to focus exclusively on the indelible influence of music and dance on Smith’s work in painting, drawing, and sculpture.

The exhibition will feature approximately twenty-five loans from important private and public collections, the Estate of David Smith, and a selection of rare archival materials.

SaiakuNana and Ignatius Rake declare ‘Punk Rock Forever’

Celebrated Japanese artist SaiakuNana, who has exhibited her work in Tokyo, London and New York, has joined forces with award-winning Cornish animator and filmmaker Ignatius Rake to produce a music video that documents her must-see gallery in London’s East End before it closes this coming July 17.

“I became a fan of SaiakuNana’s work the moment I saw it at the Watari-um gallery in Tokyo,” Rake says.

“I was immediately struck by the power and vibrancy of her paintings, which combine the kawaii aesthetic of modern Japanese popular culture with the raw energy of punk rock and abstract expressionism.”

In 2018, SaiakuNana won the Grand Prize at the 21st Taro Okamoto Award for Contemporary Art, the Japanese equivalent of the UK’s Turner Prize.

650 LADDERS – Aaron T Stephan’s Sculpture “Paths Rising” Installed at Tampa International Airport

Nationally acclaimed artist Aaron T Stephan revealed a significant new public installation titled “Paths Rising” in the Main Terminal at Tampa International Airport.

This 30 ft. wide suspended sculpture consists of over 650 tapered ladders framed by a glowing oculus of gold leaf.

“Paths Rising” will serve as an exciting new anchor point for arrivals and departures from Tampa Bay.

The work is inspired by the vibrant culture and natural beauty of the region – while its form, color, and overall dynamic speaks to the airport’s theme of atmosphere.
