GemGenève is Back in November … with Fabergé!

GemGenève

GENEVA, 23 AUGUST 2022 – It’s official! By popular demand from its exhibitors, GemGenève is holding a second, exceptional edition again this year in Geneva. “We had initially planned to hold only one edition, in May 2022. Following calls from our exhibitors, we´ve decided to organize a second edition in autumn 2022 in Geneva, but this shouldn’t become standard practice in the future”, emphasizes Ronny Totah.

The 5th meeting of gemology and jewellery professionals and enthusiasts will therefore open its doors from Thursday, 3rd November to Sunday, 6th November in Palexpo, this time in Hall 6. It will coincide once again with the major autumnal auction sales of the Geneva Luxury Week.

Painting Bizzarrini into Automobile History

I had never seen a car so wanton, so rakish, almost obscene. It was like a streetwalker in 8-in high heels. What amazed me then was that it had a Chevy V8 as an engine, iron block, pushrod. Detroit crudity in an exotic. I forgot poetry and instantly became a car guy.

A couple years later I was writing car ads in Detroit and a boss mentioned an obscure Italian car was down at a Corvette shop; I might want to take a look at it.

It was a Bizzarrini Targa.

Now, in 2022, I’d say it’s worth what — 2  to  3 million? Give or take.

DESIGNER VIVARIUM at GEMGENÈVE 2022 – Showcasing Innovative International Jewelers

As always, Vivienne, aided and abetted by Ida Faerber, has scoured the globe for independent, under-the-radar designers, each with a strong concept, a well-defined design direction, individualistic point of view and sophistication of craftsmanship and use of materials.  She explains too that as a historian she particularly appreciates designs that acknowledge and respect the long and rich history of the jewel, its rituals and traditions, while at the same time challenging perceptions of the role and meaning of the jewel. The styles represented in the 2022 Designer Vivarium, as always, are all very different from each other, showing the breadth, depth and versatility of expression in today’s world of contemporary jewellery.

Rare Porcelain from Imperial Russia by Philip Batenin

This small bell shaped tea cup, manufactured in 1830s by the famous Batenin Porcelain Factory that belonged to a wealthy merchant Philip Batenin, is a perfect example of valuable antique porcelain from the Imperial Russia. The cup features one of the rarest views ever depicted on Batenin’s creations, the Smolny Cathedral on the Neva River, which is painted completely by hand.

A similar cylindrical cup with a view of the Smolny Cathedral was sold at a Sotheby’s auction in June 2007 for £2400. Another is located in the world-famous Hermitage Museum. Nowadays, Batenin’s porcelain is quite rare and highly prized among collectors.

Who is Leonid Lindin

Leonid is one of the most skilled and imaginative precisionism artists in Europe. He he is also a hopeless romantic who uses his talent to paint spectacular fantasy scenes, often with oil on large canvases. Leonid’s artworks take time and anyone who had the pleasure to see them up-close was undoubtedly amazed by his attention to detail.

While Leonid’s favorite genre is seascapes, there are no limits to his imagination. If in real life he is a very modest man, in his art Leonid ventures into far corners of distant galaxies, sails over oceans and seas, and goes into wild winter forest of the north, not to mention the female beauty that occasionally comes to life on his canvas. A true romantic, Leonid paints romance like no one else.
